Lafite Rothschilds hører utvivlsomt til blandt vinverdenens mest eftertragtede vine. Denne "Grand Vin" har siden 1855 (altid) været klassificeret som 1. Cru i Bordeauxs berømte klassifikation.

For er der et af Bordeauxs berømte vinslotte, der de seneste 30 år har leveret fremragende kvaliteter - ja, så er det Lafite. Dette skyldes især det arbejde, som Charles Chevallier som manager har lavet fra 1994 - et arbejde, som siden 2015 er blevet videreført af Eric Kohler.

Opskriften hos Lafite består af vinstokke plantet på noget af Bordeauxs bedste terroir tilført en perfektionistisk tilgang til såvel vindyrkning som vinificering. For selvom Château Lafite stadig hører til en af de størst producerende producenter i Pauillac, har høstudbytterne og mængden af producerede flasker aldrig været mindre. Og kvaliteten har vel aldrig været så god og så stabil, som det er tilfældet i dag.

Hver parcel gærer separat i både rustfri ståltanke, cementtanke og fade for efterfølgende at lagre 18 måneder i slottets ikoniske, runde lagringskælder. Lagringen sker på 100% nye fade, der primært er produceret af egne bødkere.

Lafite er som regel ikke den mest koncentrerede 1. Cru. Lafite er typisk en sofistikeret vin, der bør nydes med koncentration. En vin med ynde, en vin med race. 

Som ejeren af slottet (Eric de Rothschild) udtaler: "Lafite er ikke som et engangsknald - Lafite er som et ægteskab - en, man vil tilbringe resten af livet med".

98 point, Wine Enthusiast: 

"This wine is the essence of Bordeaux Cabernet. Dominated by this variety at 96%, it exudes tannins and black-currant fruits. Structure is all there, backed by acidity. It is a wine for serious aging. Drink at the earliest from 2028. — Roger Voss"

97-98 point, James Suckling: 

"Polished and refined with a firm, fine and linear tannin structure. Harmonious. Perfumed violets, roses and subtle licorice. All in balance here, with precise layers of black fruit, minerals and pencil lead. Rather seamless. Firm, yet fine and sleek to the end. Very classy. Fine-velvet texture. 96% cabernet sauvignon, 3% merlot and 1% petit verdot."

97 point, Decanter: 

"Surely a contender for wine of the vintage, certainly on the Left Bank. Vibrant and explosive, what a wine in 2021. Graphite, black chocolate, black pepper and blackcurrant aromas but also with floral edges - so intense! Supple and racy on the palate, this is a firecracker of a Lafite, so much energy and acidity that you get this rush of red and black fruits then the stoney minerality and then the spice. It's sharp and racy with the length that goes on and on. You get it all here but so well delivered, real refinement and elegance in terms of fruit precision and clarity but it's just so energetic and bright. This puts you squarely in Bordeaux with the lively and balanced freshness with these gorgeous powerful and structured Cabernet aspects telling you it's from Pauillac, ending with liquorice, stone, graphite and toasted spice from the one block of old-vine Petit Verdot that went into the blend this year. Vibrant and explosive - an absolute thoroughbred - albeit a young one! Made with 96% Cabernet as opposed to a usual amount between 80-85%. A yield of 33hl/ha. The first year of full organic farming also in 2021."
